The Engineer may support any of the Downstream Plants, regionally or internationally depending upon are of expertise. This position supports all site business and corporate HES policies and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements.

This is a position that will be assigned to the Cary NC site but may be performed remotely with up to 50-60% travel required. Key activities may include; Process Development and Technical Support Supports RI team in the scale-up and commercialization of new products, including understanding capability limitations of existing equipment

and developing capital improvement scopes as needed. Leverages or develops appropriate engineering tools and programs to support process improvement, technology development, engineering design, and capital project management.

Promotes strong working relationship with Business R&D/RI and plants in all regions of Coating Solutions. Facilitates and promotes cross functional communication and cooperation; participates in or leads multi-functional improvement initiatives with representation from R&D, commercial, supply chain, and manufacturing functions. Identifies and works with specialty technical resources to support activities when needed (KOP, CETIA, or external resources). Project Leadership

and Support Identifies opportunities for process improvements including variable cost reduction, productivity, process safety and reliability, waste reduction, product quality, and commercialization of new products.

Develops and supports multi-generation project portfolios to align site performance with strategic business direction. Leads early-stage capital process for projects and may support projects up to $25 MM through implementation. Influences business unit’s technical direction and helps to set project and team priorities. Measures, evaluates, and communicates progress and results; reprioritizes as appropriate. Completes Corporate Social Responsibility deliverables for project and plant support Health, Environmental and Safety Support Lead or participate in Process Hazard Analyses, Management of Change, Pre-Startup Safety Reviews, and Incident Investigations.

Support manufacturing locations as needed to improve HES performance. Ensure unsafe conditions are corrected and communicate in a timely manner. Maintain a working knowledge of the process safety management standard, assist plants in resolving issues identified in internal and external audits, perform gap analysis against current performance, and lead action plan implementation.

Work with local teams and implement best practices to optimize operations and meet business/plant goals (HES, quality, cost, production, etc. ). Other duties as needed / assigned (5-15%) Contribute concepts to the BU Process Technology Roadmap Travel up to 20% for regular CS Downstream site visits and to support small capex commissioning. Global interaction with plants, process and project engineers, R&D/RI manager, business managers, and BU functional leaders. May be located at any one of the CS Downstream plants or R&D centers. The successful candidate will have: A degree in chemical engineering is required.

5 years chemical industrial experience in process, production, and/or project engineering is highly desired. 5 years plant process or production engineering experience is strongly preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of engineering theory and principals, and proven ability to apply same is required. Understands and adheres to laws and rules governing the design and implementation of solutions regarding chemical processes. These include federal laws regarding environmental compliance, process, hazards techniques, engineering standards, OSHA requirements, PSM, RAGAGEP, etc.

Experience in batch or semi-batch process is strongly preferred. Intermediate-to-advanced skills in analyzing processes such as reactor design, reaction kinetics, agitation/mixing, heat transfer, separations, drying, powder processing & handling, etc. is preferred. Intermediate-to-advanced skills in modeling chemical processes, such as statistics, process simulation thermodynamics, etc. is preferred. Demonstrated skill in sizing of pressure relief equipment is desired. Proven ability in process development, scale-up, Aspen (or similar) simulation, and design is preferred. Operational excellence / Six Sigma Greenbelt / LEAN certification (and implementation experience) is preferred; Six Sigma Blackbelt certification is a plus.
