Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for the development and ongoing support of new and existing designs used in surface ship and submarine propulsion and power generation systems for the US Navy based out of Sunnyvale, CA. The prospective candidate will work with a group of incredible people with backgrounds in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerothermal, Acoustics, Structural and Systems Engineers.
The prospective candidate researches, develops, designs, and test components, equipment, and systems.
What You'll get to do: Design of propulsion and power generation hardware using solid modeling tools. Select and evaluate materials suitable for underwater systems. Participate in the resolution of technical and complex issues related to hardware. Participate in the generation and revision of engineering drawings, reports, and procedures. Interface directly with customer and management to status activities. Coordinate planning and scheduling of major activities. Occasional domestic travel will be required. This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below: Basic Qualifications for Mechanical Design Engineer Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 2 years related experience; or Master's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with no related experience.
Demonstrated experience with task planning and execution to meet schedule requirements. Ability to work independently on projects with minimal lead or management oversight.
Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance. Basic Qualifications for Principal Mechanical Design Engineer Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 5 years related experience; or Master's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 3 years related experience. or Ph D in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with no related experience.
Demonstrated experience with task planning and execution to meet schedule requirements. Ability to work independently on projects with minimal lead or management oversight. Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with CAD modeling (NX, CREO, Solid Works, or equivalent) Experience in ASME Y14.5 and ASME Y14.100 Dimensioning, Tolerancing, and Engineering Drawing Practices Experience in developing design concepts, performing trade studies, and conducting evaluations and analyses Strong background in machine design, strength of materials, and materials technology Experience in executing projects in cross-functional matrix organization with other engineering disciplines Experience in technical presentation and interfacing with customers Experience in working with vendors and suppliers Willing to learn Acoustic Analysis, Structural Analysis, and/or Electromagnetic Design An active DOD Secret clearance Salary Range: $79,300 - $118,900 Salary Range 2: $97,500 - $146,300The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
