About the Department The Architectural Engineering Department enjoys a longstandingnational reputation for excellence, rigor, and innovation inoffering a comprehensive undergraduate education in structuralengineering. Interdisciplinary learning takes place in coursesshared by architecture, construction management, and engineeringstudents and provides understanding of the entiredesign-construction process. As

one of five departments in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design it offers an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science major, a minor, and a Master of Science in Architectural Engineering.

The department currently hasapproximately 9 full-time faculty, 12 part-time faculty, 300undergraduate majors, and 15 masters students. The departmentmaintains close ties with industry through an active advisorycouncil, engagement with professional associations and an extensivenetwork of successful alumni. Admission is selective, students havetheir choice of internships, and graduates are in high demand. ------Head of the Architectural Engineering Department The Architectural Engineering Department in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispois seeking applications for a full-time Department Head at the rankof Associate or Full Professor to begin September 16, 2024.

The position is tenure track with thepossibility for tenure to be granted at the time of theappointment. The ideal candidate will be an inspiring leader who engages thedepartments stakeholders in developing and achieving its vision, mission and goals while championing inclusive excellence inteaching, learning, scholarship, research, professional engagement, and service.

The Head works closely with faculty and staff tosustain the quality of academic programs and manage thedepartments fiscal, human and physical resources, including therecruitment and retention of students, and partnering with thecolleges development officer on fundraising. The successfulcandidate will be a passionate advocate for Cal Polys Learn by Doing tradition, and a collegial collaborator who contributes tothe colleges administrative team and builds partnerships withalumni, industry, and communities. Required Qualifications Required qualifications for the position are demonstratedexperience in effective administrative and strategic leadership, adistinguished record of accomplishments commensurate with the rankof an Associate or Full Professor and either: a doctorate instructural engineering or a closely related field, along withevidence of scholarship related to building structures; or amasters degree in structural engineering, a structural engineeringlicense or the equivalent, and 10 or more years of professionalengineering practice experience.

Demonstrated proficiency inwritten and oral use of the English language; demonstratedcommitment to student-centered learning and teaching; the abilityto collaborate in multidisciplinary settings; and evidence ofsupporting diversity, equity, and inclusion are alsorequired.

Preferred Qualifications Special consideration will be given to candidates withexperience in both the academic environment and structuralengineering practice; experience with fundraising, budget planning, and personnel management; experience with recruitment and retentionof engineering students; experience with the ABET accreditationprocess; and successful collaborations with stakeholders outsidethe university including industry partners and alumni.

The anticipated annual salary is $117,000 - $160,000reflects the total salary for department head responsibilities. Appointed candidate will be expected to teach coursesto undergraduate and graduate students in classroom and laboratorysettings. Teaching needs in the department include both analysiscourses and design courses focused on building structures. Structural earthquake engineering is emphasized throughout thecurriculum with collaboration among the departments within the College of Architecture and Environmental Design. Additionalresponsibilities to teaching include advising students, research, professional engagement, participating in university serviceactivities, and conducting applied scholarship.

Salary commensurate with education and experience of theindividual selected. Anticipated hiring range: $96,000 $107,000per year. The position start date is September 16, 2024 for the 2024-2025academic year. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Minimum qualifications for the position are: --a doctorate in structural engineering or a closely relatedfield, along with evidence of scholarship related to buildingstructures; or a masters degree in structural engineering, astructural engineering license or the equivalent, and 10 or moreyears of professional engineering practice experience, and--demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language.
