The search seeks candidates in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in the areas of (1) foundational research enabling the development, evaluation, and application of AI in cybersecurity, networks, communications, and information sciences; (2) supervised, unsupervised, generative, and reinforcement machine learning methods
with applicability in areas such as cybersecurity, networks, communications, and information sciences. Candidates focusing in cybersecurity and/or communications with multidisciplinary interests that explore connections with topics or fields such as biology, healthcare, mathematics, statistics, physics, nanotechnology, chip design, advanced manufacturing, software security, and autonomous, computer, cyber-physical, and energy systems, are highly encouraged.

The ECE Department has active undergraduate and graduate programs in electrical engineering, computer engineering and cybersecurity (including a new BS in Cybersecurity Engineering degree), and a diverse portfolio of research in the areas related to artificial intelligence including machine learning, data science, cybersecurity, computer engineering, communications, signal processing, and controls. As of October 2023, faculty in ECE and the Department of Computer and Information Sciences share approximately 11,000 sqft at UD's new Fin Tech Innovation Hub, bringing together research groups in areas of machine learning, AI, cybersecurity, and high-performance computing.
Applicants should have a Ph. D. in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or a closely related field at the time of hire. Candidates are expected to show exceptional promise for, or a proven record of, cross-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research achievements, as well as commitment for excellence in undergraduate and graduate education. They will be expected to secure external sources of funding to develop a strong research program and to achieve a position of leadership in their field of study.
