of our work culture and benefits, click here. How You Can Be the Impact A Chemical Operator is a multifunctional position which encompasses aspects of safety, quality, and productivity.
Operators closely monitor the status of complex chemical processes, collect and test lab samples, monitor machine parameters, record pressures and measurements, interpret charts, and record data. Job assignments may include chemical operation and plastic compounding/extrusion. Operators follow standard operating procedures and work instructions to make necessary adjustments in the production process such as adjusting control instruments and adding materials. Operators maintain accurate written records or logs of all production processes, equipment, maintenance, and routine housekeeping while monitoring machinery/equipment to assure proper operation.
Operators assist in maintaining process and non-process areas ensuring compliance with current regulatory agencies. Operators tend to pumps, open/close valves, monitor gauges, monitor pressure, lockout equipment, and operate mobile equipment. Operators report all equipment malfunctions to the maintenance department for prompt repair, make minor mechanical adjustments as needed, and lockout equipment. Operators monitor processes from a control room setting and make adjustments to equipment in the field of operations.
Basic operator functions include operating, cleaning, monitoring, loading/unloading products, and maintaining equipment in an indoor/outdoor production manufacturing setting. Operators safely enter confined spaces, enter containers/vessels, ascend to elevated heights, and descend to lower levels to perform minor equipment adjustments and inspections. Ability to acquire the demonstrated level of proficiency in Work Keys® backssment (pre-employment testing): Applied Mathematics: 4; Workplace Documents: 4: Graphic Literacy: 4 Must successfully pass a drug screening, pre-employment medical screening, and background check. Must be able to comply with all safety policies/practices including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hardhat, safety glasses, safety goggles, steel shoe shoes, hearing protection, face shield, respirator (limit facial hair to ensure proper fit), chemical suit, gloves, harnesses, fire rated suit, etc.
Active member of the Tactical Response Team (TRT) for a minimum of five years (training provided): live fire training, rope/repelling from buildings, emergency medical responders training, hazmat training, confined space rescue training, CPR training, medical/first aid training, etc. TRT membership and training are a condition of employment. Must be able to work 12-hour rotating shifts (36/48 hour workweeks, days, nights, weekends, holidays) on a team of operators.
Ability to work overtime as required including call-ins, weekends, and holidays. Ability to identify and distinguish colors. Capable of performing sustained physical activities including but not limited to walking, climbing ladders, stairs, standing, squatting, kneeling, pushing/pulling, and ability to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis. Work indoors and outdoors in hot, cool, moist, and humid conditions, etc. Work in confined spaces with limited lighting while wearing respirator/SCBA (limit facial hair to ensure proper fit), work at elevated heights while wearing fall protection equipment, and descend to lower levels.
Participate in on-the-job training which includes certification tests and skills demonstrations. Respirator fit and medical approval required prior to placement. Valid state issued driver’s license; ability to obtain a company forklift license and operate other mobile equipment. Perform other duties as assigned or required. Desired Skill: Plastics Technology or Applied/Process/Industrial Technology Degree or technical degree preferred (education substituted for 2 years relevant work experience as listed under ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS).
