This position resides in the Software Engineering Group within the Application Development Division of the Information Technology Services Directorate, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities: Develop and maintain: REST API endpoints using C# in ASP. NET applications in collaboration with frontend developers on the development team. Business logic and data access code that will be utilized by API endpoints and other processes in support of those API’s. Code in SQL Server databases using stored

procedures, functions, user-defined types, etc. including altering or creating new tables and views as needed.

Collaborate with: Product Manager and other members of the development team to ensure software requirements are accurately represented in epics, features, and user stories. Development team, including the Product Manager, to ensure tests and documentation meet the expectations of the software requirements. Other: Work as part of an Agile development team regularly updating any user stories, tasks, or defects that you’ve agreed to while collaborating with teammates. While mainly focused on the middle tier and data layer code, you will also need to be familiar with the needs and complexities of frontend development as well.

Basic Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in a business, technical, or related field of study with at least two years of proven experience is required, or an overall combination of equivalent experience may be considered.

Two or more years of real-world experience developing web applications, ideally with ASP. NET applications using C# and SQL Server. A solid grasp of using Git for version control including common branching and merging strategies. An understanding of common software architectures such as layered architectures and hexagonal architectures. Familiarity with common software principles and guidelines such as SOLID, DRY/WET, and YAGNI and when they should and should not be insisted upon. Superb communication, organizational, and time management skills and problem-solving abilities. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working as team member under one or more Agile development methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, Lean, etc.

Experience using both. NET Framework and. NET Core and common. NET libraries such as Entity Framework, Dapper, NLog, Autofac, Moq, etc. Familiarity with using tesing tooks like Spec Flow, Azure Dev Ops Test Plans, Playwright, etc. Familiarity with Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, SQL Server Management Studio, Azure Data Studio, or alternative tools such as Rider or Data Grip. Desire to continuously improve technical skills, processes, and strategies in delivering regular, reliable, high-quality releases.
