Visit Duties As a Research Microbiologist , you will: Design and conduct laboratory experiments as part of larger research projects on research leading to new designs for rotavirus genotyping kits, producing standardized kits, and developing and coordinating international and domestic training activities for other microbiologists.

Maintain Quality Management Systems documentation, prepare reports and article for publication in peer reviewed journals. Work with team members to accomplish research objectives. Conduct analysis of research data

and prepare technical reports and manuscript for publication and presentation. Prepare findings for publication or presentation at scientific meetings. Requirements Conditions of Employment US Citizenship is required.

Background Investigation is required. Basic Qualifications: Degree: microbiology; or biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 semester hours in microbiology and other subjects related to the study of microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in the physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent.

OR Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, which must include the following experience: developing new diagnostic assays, test stool samples for rotavirus genotyping and providing training to other microbiologists on performing rotavirus genotyping assays support for domestic and international rotavirus surveillance activities.

OR Ph. D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e. g. Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e. g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
