The Azure Platform Architecture team is part of a broader hardware and infrastructure organization known as the Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE). SCHIE is the team behind Microsoft's expanding Cloud Infrastructure and is responsible for powering Microsoft's " Intelligent Cloud" mission.

SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's 200+ online businesses including Teams, One Drive, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, Bing, MSN and the Microsoft Azure platform globally.

We architect and design the server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions to support these businesses. Open to 100% work from home Travel up to 25% Qualifications: Required Qualifications: 9+ years related technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related technical engineering experience OR Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related technical engineering experience OR Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.

9+ years of experience in computer or server or storage or GPU or Networking mechanical design. Experience with platform level designs. Experience with PTC CREO Elements/Pro Engineer or Solidworks 3D-Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software. Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirementsinclude, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with platforms deployed in hyperscale or cloud datacenters. Experience with prototyping and high-volume manufacturing methods. Knowledge of and application experience with sheet-metal and plastic tool design to support design decisions for manufacturing and assembly of new products including Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Excellence (DFX). Experience working with remote team members and Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs)/Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) development partners.

Advanced knowledge of analytical tools/processes for heat transfer, fluid flow, material science, and structural analysis. Proficient with Flo THERM, Flow Simulation Computational Fluid Dynamics (FLOEFD), Icepak or equivalent Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis software. Ability to streamline and optimize the product definition during the design phase. Ability to generate and analyze architectural solutions, including directional cost analysis, feasibility and engineering degree of difficulty.

Experience in tolerance analysis and the Production Part Approval Process (PPAPA). Mechanical Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U. S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
