The Opportunity Black and Veatch has an exciting opportunity for a Project Architect within our Engineering and Development Services Architectural Group. The in-house architectural staff provides architectural building
support for a variety of infrastructure and facility design and design build projects.
This role is targeting a growth segment for BV in the industrial and manufacturing facility design space, as such this person will split their time in project execution as well as development of internal standards, procedures and details, while also contributing to the strategic direction of the segment. This is an excellent role for an accomplished Project Architect, interested to get in the weeds in the short term but contribute to building and developing a larger team. Key Responsibilities This Project Architect position will be responsible for both design development and leadership for the architectural facility design and detailing, with a focus on delivering design-build projects in the growing Commercial and Industrial Manufacturing sector. The architect will be responsible for mentoring and cross-training other architectural professionals in how to apply both building codes and industry-specific design standards to a given facility requirement. Candidate should be experienced in specification development, with a specialization in manufacturing facilities, with an interest and capability in providing mentoring and standard development for facility specific requirements.
The architect will be exposed to all aspects of professional practice including construction phase services. Specific experience in design for manufacturing facilities, such as GMP food and beverage, c GMP pharma or biomedical facilities will be preferred. The Architectural Team is engaged in the following project tasks: Design and Construction Activities Proposal and conceptual design graphics. Schematic design: Generation of project specific outline standards and specifications, communication of requirements with estimating team.
Detailed Design: Coordinating the creation of drawing packages for subcontractor/supplier bidding, permitting and construction, and developing architectural specifications in coordination with other disciplines. Construction Phase Services: Reviewing shop drawings, RFIs, change orders, etc. Building types focused for this role include : Food and Beverage Manufacturing, Ingredient Manufacturing, Biomedical/Biological Production Processes, Tech Manufacturing/Recycling/Waste To Value facilities, Data Centers or Sustainable Processing.
Based on the experience of the individual, support may extend to infrastructure facilities as well. Code Reviews - Facility review for building code compliance Sustainable Design/LEED/Envision - Application of sustainable strategies in facility or infrastructure design Preferred Qualifications The following skills are required: Revit Auto CAD Sketch Up Excel Power Point Knowledge of varied construction materials, especially in various manufacturing environments Shop drawing review experience The following skills are strongly preferred: Field experience Cooler, Chiller, Freezer, Cold Storage Facility Architectural Design The following skills are a plus: Sketching ability Detailing Knowledge of the International Building Code Knowledge of the International Fire Code Microsoft Office Suite Minimum Qualifications Requires a bachelor's degree in architecture from an NAAB or a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.
