great opportunity for professional growth. Find your future with us. Boeing is seeking Mechanical Design Engineer (Associate or Experienced) to work on the Design/Build Structures Lab and Weapons team in Berkeley, MO. - The team is part of the Boeing Test & Evaluation, Design/Build organization.
- The D/B Structures Lab and Weapons team primarily supports MW Structures and Materials Lab Test capability and the BDS Weapons programs with mechanical and electrical design and manufacturing planning. The Mechanical Design engineer will primarily support the Structures and Materials Test labs with mechanical design as part of the Structural or Materials Test design efforts to meet test requirements.
- This support includes conceptual and detailed design of test rigs, test fixtures, hardware, equipment and hydraulic systems through fabrication, assembly, and checkout while collaborating with and being led by the Structures and Materials test team.
-The design work could vary from materials test fixtures for a uniaxial load frame to small component test rigs up to full-scale aircraft test fixtures. - As part of this team, you will have the opportunity to work on the latest military aircraft and weapons programs, such as T-7A and MQ-25A, and support our legacy programs like F-15, F-18, and JDAM into the future. At times, design support to other disciplines of testing, like that of flight
test, wind tunnel, and others, may be required to meet the needs of Boeing programs.
Position Responsibilities: Support the design of hardware required for structural testing under the guidance of and collaboration with the Structures Test Lab. Utilize communication skills and work with various cross-functional teams Support the backssment/trade studies of best material selection & fabrication approaches Support Make/Buy decisions Design support and documentation of new and existing structures test hardware Exhibit a high degree of mechanical aptitude, which includes an understanding of design drawings. Test hardware acquisition/fabrication liaison/additive manufacturing Collaboration on the development of design criteria from customer objectives/specifications At times support design tasks across different Boeing laboratories Individual duties include: Conceptual, detail, and assembly design of test hardware Work statement creation for build-to packages as needed Creation of fabrication/machine shop drawings Incorporation of instrumentation into mechanical designs Test hardware stress, modal, thermal, and/or fluid dynamic analysis as needed Test hardware quality inspection, check-out, and documentation Machine shop/fabricator coordination and liaison (internal & external) Design support for test hardware while in-test Close coordination with: Lab test engineering, operations, instrumentation, and technology personnel Boeing and non-Boeing program customers Electrical/instrumentation design engineers Shop mechanics and suppliers This position is expected to be 100% onsite.
- The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. This position requires the ability to obtain a U. S. Security Clearance for which the U. S. Government requires U. S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U. S.
Secret Clearance Post-Start is required. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry 2+ years' experience in mechanical/mechanical system design 2+ years' experience with a design tool (CAD package) like Siemens NX, CATIA, etc Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): Bachelor's degree within a Mechanical, Civil, Structural or Aerospace Engineering Discipline Proficiency in Siemens NX (Unigraphics) Exposure to test and evaluation of full-scale and/or sub-scale test articles Knowledge of machine shop fabrication capabilities including conventional & CNC machining, EDM, fit/finish tools & processes, and QA inspection Familiarity with additive manufacturing processes & tools including SLA, SLS, FDM, DMLS, and other 3D printing capabilities 1+ years' experience working with stress analysis/structural analysis Familiarity with NASTRAN/PATRAN or similar FEM software performing structural analysis on aircraft or space structures Understanding of material properties and mechanical statics & dynamics (structural design) Understanding of structural dynamics, fluid flow, and thermodynamics theory & application Typical Education/Experience: - Level 2: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.
