This Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for conceiving and designing cutting edge heating/cooling components and systems with optimum efficiency, performance, reliability and safety.
The role requires working closely with the Manufacturing, Validation, Purchasing, Product Excellence, and Service organizations as well as external suppliers to design outstanding vehicles. This is a mechanical design position where part and assembly design expertise, manufacturing process experience and fundamental engineering knowledge are far more important than extensive HVAC and thermal systems or project engineering experience. The role: Mechanical design and packaging of components to meet
system and vehicle requirements while optimizing for efficiency, cost, weight, manufacturability, and serviceability.
Ensure vehicles conform to all motor vehicle safety standards governing HVAC and thermal system operation. Develop conceptual packaging models for various thermal components including tubes, brackets, and larger mechanical systems. Work with other engineering teams to review design solutions and guide design changes, ensure packaging compliance and clearance. Own, drive, and confirm your designs' performance with help from CAE, manufacturing, and suppliers. Influence design based on engineering principles. Qualifications: Proven experience creating complex CAD models quickly and efficiently.
we use CATIA and consider candidates with strong capability in any other CAD package. Knowledge of GD&T and how it applies to part, assembly, and customer requirements. Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals such as fluid flow, thermals, strength & stiffness of materials, physics. 1- 3 years relevant design & engineering experience. Excellent work ethic, well-developed teamwork and interpersonal skills. Must be capable of working as a member of a cross-functional team. Experience designing and working with manufacturers to create parts and assemblies using high volume manufacturing processes (injection molding, stamping, die casting, blow molding, etc) in any industry.
Ability to perform hand calculations and create spreadsheet models to do first-order sizing of components. Preferred: Prior experience taking initiative and ownership of large-scope projects. Passion for electric vehicles and energy efficiency Knowledge of relevant manufacturing techniques of HVACs/heat exchangers/ blower motors HVAC design and performance. Demonstrable motivation and ability to solve novel, difficult design problems with tight timing constraints.
