Duties and Responsibilities: Uses the nursing process, critical
thinking skills, professional judgment, and the attributes of Careful Nursing to provide care for an assigned population of patients.

Synthesizes information and resources to care for complex, higher acuity patients. Completes designated unit-specific competencies. Completes at least 16 hours of continuing education, in addition to mandatory in-service requirements, within the last year that is specific to daily clinical practice. Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and facilitates discharge planning and patient education. A Level II nurse must also demonstrate three of the six criteria below: Demonstrates ability to function as charge nurse. Actively participates as a member or co-chair of organizational and/or unit-specific committees.
Acts as a resource for specific specialty areas by providing in-service education, validating competence of peers or unlicensed personnel, and/or precepts new nurses. Provides constructive input for evaluation of unit process and unlicensed personnel. Maintains membership in a professional organization. Participates in volunteer or community outreach. Coordinates discharge planning by identifying discharge needs, implementing/revising, and communicating the plan in collaboration with the patient/family/significant others.
Discusses patient progress, problems, and needs with physician and multidisciplinary team members regularly to ensure that goals for discharge are met. Assures high levels of quality of care through compliance with regulatory standards, reference to current research related to patient care outcomes, and participation in the data collection and analysis process of ongoing quality monitoring. Uses supplies cost-effectively and efficiently, and works with the management team to make unit supply level adjustments, additions, and revisions. Additional Duties and Responsibilities: Ensures that care is provided for all patients utilizing the attributes of Careful Nursing.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing is required. A current RN License in the State of Illinois is required. Current CPR certification required ACLS certification is preferred, required for critical care and ER PALS certification required for ER and Pediatrics NRP certification required for Special Care Nursery Ability to quickly recognize changes in condition and needs of patients.
Knowledge of patient's growth and development needs. Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy in carrying out work duties.
