POSITION SUMMARY: This senior electrical/software engineer will work with overhead cranes/hoists in the Konecranes Nuclear Equipment and Services (KNES) business, completing Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) coupled with final commissioning. This engineer will be able to read/design electrical schematics, use Auto CAD Electrical, perform electrical calculations, program PLCs using ladder
logic and design HMI applications (primarily Rockwell and Siemens), perform field startups & testing, work in industrial environments, have detailed knowledge of electric motor controls, utility circuits, safety circuits, and operator controls, as related to overhead cranes and hoists.
This engineer will be able to trouble shoot and resolve problems including but not limited to circuit breakers, transformers, motor starters, contactors, relays, A. C. /D. C. inverters, braking resistors, etc. Startups and field service activities can be both domestic and internationally and may last for 1-2 months at a time. This position will report to the Electrical Engineering Supervisor. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Function as a lead electrical/software engineer at site/office and provide technical supervision to other electrical engineers, technicians, craft, and other workers on a daily basis for the site/office.
Work with the project manager to establish work requirements, determine what is needed at the site to keep customer acceptance moving forward, meet schedules, and daily review of work activities. Work and support the Installation Site Supervisor. Be able to trouble shoot and update/modify computer programs such as PLC code or HMI programs that automate specific business processes. Be able to understand, read, design, and mark up single line diagrams, schematics, panel layouts, interconnect, and conduit drawings released by Engineering.
These " as-built" drawings and mark-ups must be returned to Engineering so configuration control can be maintained. Calculate wire sizes, drive sizes, braking resistors, transformers, contactors, and overload protection for any model crane up to 800 volts D. C. and up to 4160 volts A. C. from schematics or other information provided by customer specifications using appropriate electrical codes and appropriate Konecranes standards. Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and solve problems (shop or field) by working with other engineers and service technicians, along with persons in other departments, to research and define problems, research, and prepare solutions by properly communicating with the necessary personnel.
Be the engineering/software lead at the site to get the equipment ready for testing and then accomplish the testing in the most effective path forward as possible. This would include going through the Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) procedure, step by step, with the customer to prove the equipment works as intended. Excellent customer relations attitude: the individual needs to be a solution-oriented person that will work to satisfy the customer and complete the testing/start up as expeditiously as possible.
The willingness and drive to self-teach/learn new material and understand design concepts. Provide input to design improvements by providing information to the chief engineer that shows improved functions and/or cost reduction. Must be able to do at least 20% - 40% travel and have the ability to climb up 50+ feet of vertical ladders. Non-engineering responsibilities includes working with project managers to meet project deadlines, and work with purchasing to specify parts.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must have a 4-year Electrical Engineering degree (BSEE, BSEET) or equivalent. Preferred: Experience with the following: 5 to 10 years of electrical engineering experience in doing field startups, wiring, PLC and HMI programming, and experience in setting up variable frequency drives. Rockwell PLC/HMI, Siemens PLC/HMI, Magnetek VFDs, Siemens VFDs programming preferred. Knowledgeable with using and applying the NEC electrical code. Ability to lead and work with others to maximize their productivity. Extremely important is the ability to be customer focused and work with even the most challenging individuals.
Be able to travel domestically and internationally to nuclear and government facilities. Be able to stay in the field for durations of 1-2 months at a time with 20% - 40% in the field.
